GR86 & BRZ Brembo Wheel Clearance Guide | 5x100

Home › Wheel Fitment Guides › GR86 / BRZ Brembo Wheel Clearance
Brembo-equipped Toyota GR86 ZN8 and Subaru BRZ ZD8 models need more than a basic 5x100 fitment check. Two wheels with the same diameter, width and offset can have completely different spoke-to-caliper clearance, so the exact wheel face matters.
GR86 / BRZ Brembo fitment quick reference
- PCD: 5x100
- Popular performance diameters: 17 and 18 inch
- Common performance widths: 8.5 to 9.5 inch
- Brembo clearance depends on barrel diameter and spoke profile, not just offset
- Tyre, suspension height and alignment still determine guard and strut clearance

Which GR86 / BRZ models have Brembo brakes?
Australian GR86 performance packages and selected special variants have been offered with Brembo four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers. BRZ brake specification also varies by model and market. Always identify the exact brake package fitted to the car before selecting wheels.
18x8.5 wheels with Brembo brakes
For an OEM+ street setup, 18x8.5 around +40 to +45 is a useful starting range. The narrower width generally leaves more body-clearance margin than a 9.5-inch setup, but it does not guarantee caliper clearance. The spoke face must still clear the Brembo.
18x9.5 wheels with Brembo brakes
18x9.5 around +38 to +45 is a popular performance direction on the second-generation GR86 / BRZ. It provides more tyre support but makes inner and outer clearance more sensitive. A wheel can fit the guard and suspension yet still contact the brake caliper if the spoke shape is unsuitable.
For 18x9.5 +38 specifically, see our RAYS 57DR 5x100 guide. Always confirm the exact face and brake application before purchase.
Can 17-inch wheels clear GR86 / BRZ Brembos?
Some 17-inch performance wheels can work with large brakes, but barrel clearance is tighter than with 18-inch wheels and compatibility is highly wheel-specific. Do not treat a generic 17x9 5x100 specification as proof of Brembo clearance.
If 17-inch wheels are your priority, browse 17-inch 5x100 wheels and confirm the exact wheel model against the brake package.
Why spoke profile matters
Offset describes where the wheel mounting pad sits relative to the wheel centreline. It does not describe the shape of the spokes between the hub and rim. A flatter spoke can contact a large caliper while a more convex spoke at the same nominal size may clear it.
This is why brake-clearance templates or known vehicle applications are more useful than relying on PCD and offset alone. See our general wheel brake-clearance guide for more detail.
Popular genuine JDM wheel choices
Popular GR86 / BRZ choices include RAYS Volk Racing TE37, Gram Lights 57DR, 57CR, Enkei RPF1 and selected WORK / SSR applications.

GR86 / BRZ Brembo wheel FAQ
Does 5x100 mean a wheel will fit a Brembo-equipped GR86 or BRZ?
No. 5x100 only confirms the bolt pattern. Width, offset, centre bore, tyre clearance and especially spoke-to-caliper clearance still need to be checked.
Is 18 inch safer than 17 inch for Brembo clearance?
It generally provides more barrel space, but an 18-inch wheel can still fail to clear if its spoke profile is unsuitable.
Is 18x9.5 +38 automatically bolt-on?
No. It is a common performance specification, but tyre width, ride height, alignment, guard clearance and the exact wheel face all matter.
